Chile Verde Orientation
Crossroads City Derby recruits new skaters twice a year, typically in February and June. This invitation is extended to women 21 or older who would like to join our league as a skater. During this time you will be given instructions to join our Chile Verde Facebook page to keep up-to-date on all of the happenings. Skaters will be required to have USARS insurance PRIOR to bootcamp. We'll also help you find gear before bootcamp begins. All skaters MUST have full gear and insurance before bootcamp begins, otherwise they will not be allowed to participate - no exceptions.
Bootcamp
During bootcamp, skaters will learn basic skills as designated by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Since we are governed by WFTDA, every skater must demonstrate skills such as: proper derby stance, how to fall correctly, basic stops, and endurance level prior to becoming a skater for CCD.
During the bootcamp, we perform a skills assessment on every Chile Verde to determine the various levels of skating ability at that time. Official testing will be held twice. If you pass your minimum skills, you will be drafted onto a team and permitted to practice with the league. If you do not pass, we encourage you to join our league as a referee or non-skating official (The Dark Side of the Bout). This will give you exposure to other skaters and the ability to learn more about the sport in general, which should help if you elect to try out again the following year.
