Why did you choose that name & number? I’ve always been a fan of space exploration and of course you can’t blast off without a countdown...3...2...1....
Positions Played: Blocker (preferred), Pivot (reluctantly), Jammer (disinclined)
What is your real life job? Caregiver
When did you start your roller derby journey and/or when did you join CCD? Started my first CCD fresh meat boot camp in February 2011. Had to go through 4 boot camps to finally pass minimum skills (and also not be pregnant)!
What's your favorite thing about playing roller derby? My favorite thing about roller derby is the confidence it gave me to embrace who I am. It empowers me to no end. Plus it makes me exercise in a way that’s fun.
What other roles do you hold in the league? Currently head coach, social media co-manage, and sandwich liaison. Formerly General Manager.
What else do you enjoy doing besides skating? Any hobbies or interests? I snack. Snacking is a hobby, right?
What is the biggest/best thing you've learned by being part of Crossroads City Derby? I used to be in the mindset of “I can’t be friends with women. They’re too catty and I can’t handle drama.” But being around this team of women made me learn that when we all have a common goal, we all get along just fine. Sure, we don’t always agree but that’s what happens with individuals. Everyone has something unique to add to making our team better. I have also made some of the best friends I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Furthermore, we’ve played against teams that were also the coolest opponents on Earth whom I keep in touch with online. Playing against people who have great sportswomanship are the best games to play and think back on fondly.
