Why did you choose that name & number? I chose Scarberry Shortcake because I am short and sweet, yet one day I’d like to scar someone while playing derby. I chose the number 38 because when I started derby, my daughter was 3 and my son was 8 years old.
Positions Played: Blocker, jammer
What is your real life job? Bilingual teacher
When did you start your roller derby journey and/or when did you join CCD? I am pretty sure it was July 2017.
What's your favorite thing about playing roller derby? Or what's your best/funniest/favorite derby anecdote? My favorite thing about playing roller derby is that it makes me feel powerful and invincible, and it is then that I realize what a daring soul I have. I’ll never forget my first home game, I had dreamed of playing but sometimes I thought it would never come true. I remember gearing up and warming up with Sucias. It was a feeling of “one of my dreams literally came true.” That feeling was truly phenomenal.
What other roles do you hold in the league? Member of the Community Engagement Committee
What else do you enjoy doing besides skating? Any hobbies or interests? I LOVE to dance, I love to cook & bake, paint, doing my daughter’s hair, and I love to write.
What is the biggest/best thing you've learned by being part of Crossroads City Derby? We are capable of so much more than we are aware of, and it all starts with TRYING. CCD has taught me, you don’t give up, although you may not think so, someone else is watching and admiring you already.
