OUR MISSION
Crossroads City Derby (CCD) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting athleticism, good sportswomanship and female empowerment through the sport of women’s flat-track roller derby. It is our mission to provide a positive and supportive environment that instills courage, integrity and mutual respect in our athletes while helping them to excel in the sport that they love.
Crossroads City Derby adheres to the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) philosophy and is operated “by the skaters, for the skaters.” We are committed to the growth and development of roller derby in southern New Mexico and beyond through competition and fellowship with other leagues both regionally and nationally. It is also our mission to donate volunteer time and proceeds from bouts to charitable causes in the city of Las Cruces and surrounding areas.
THE RESURGENCE
If you’re thinking this is the fist-flying, cat-fighting, over-the-bar throwing derby of the 70’s, it’s not. Our resurgence of roller derby is focused on athleticism over showmanship. Many leagues across the nation are working toward making roller derby a legitimate sport and hoping to compete in such arenas as the X-Games and eventually, the Olympics. Equivalent to any organized sport, The Women’s Flat Track Association sets the rules and standards that we must adhere to.
Currently, there are over 950 roller derby leagues in 34 countries with more forming everyday. There is national coverage via the Derby News Network and The Women's Flat Track Association. There are also several leagues who have their own tv and radio programs.
