Why did you choose that name & number? My name comes from having a figure skating background and you know, Rock n' Roll. (Thanks for the name help, Roz) My number is my birthday.
Positions Played: ALL THE POSITIONS!!! Blocker, Pivot and Jammer
What is your real life job? Financial Industry
When did you start your roller derby journey and/or when did you join CCD? I started with CCD (and roller derby in general) mid 2016.
What's your favorite thing about playing roller derby? Or what's your best/funniest/favorite derby anecdote? Favorite things to say and hear: "Come at me, bro!" "You shall not pass!" "Nope. Not today." "I do what I want!"
What other roles do you hold in the league? League President and Sucias Co-Captain
What else do you enjoy doing besides skating? Any hobbies or interests? I like to read! A lot!
What is the biggest/best thing you've learned by being part of Crossroads City Derby? I've always been involved in sports, but after college, the real world, starting a family, and life in general there wasn't much out there to do. I never would have predicted that I would come to love the sport of roller derby as much as do.
As a child, I was an artistic roller skater, gymnast and cheerleader, and I continued on to cheer in college. Derby, unlike my sports experiences in the past, is a team sport based on accruing points. What?!? No judges involved! The goal is not difficulty and perfection, but moment to moment points. This was a first for me, and the difference between the two types of sports is bigger than I think people realize. I still don't always understand the Xs and Os explained on paper (or chalk) or fully grasp the aspect of "plays", but I can take direction like a champ, work with my team and rely on my instincts and skills.
Roller derby itself is a rough game, and the people involved are crazy tough. Roller derby athletes have somehow managed to mix highly aggressive behavior, skill and teamwork in a chaotic song and dance that I don't personally think can't be replicated. All done with encouraging teammates, and foes, with smiles on their faces. Toughness and hard work, both physically and mentally, are rewarded; which is amazing, and rare, for women.
Overall, this has just been an amazing experience for me and the people involved have become my closest friends and family. We truly care for each other, and it's great knowing you have such strong people at your back for anything. I love you guys!
