CCD STATE OF THE UNION

CCD STATE OF THE UNION…Several years ago, I bought tickets to see the Broadway musical Wicked when it was showing in Albuquerque. Puncher knew about the tickets and jokingly said if my date fell through, she would step in because she loves the show (almost as much as I do). As you may have already guessed, my date fell through at the last minute. So last minute, in fact, that I called Puncher at about 3 or 4 AM on a Sunday morning to tell her she has to step up and we would be leaving around 7 AM to the Pope Theater in time for the matinee.
Three hours up, change into theater clothes in the car, see the show, laugh hysterically at taco fast food places on Central while trying to find dinner, three hours back and voilà, the best non-date-date I've ever had. We laughed, we cried, she introduced me to Clint Black singing mariachi.
Now, it’s my turn. Puncher’s four wonderful years are up and I’ll be stepping in. Not so much because her date fell through, but because I want to help the league reach its goals of full WFTDA membership and bring home a Hydra and I think I make one helluva date.
It’s completely cliché, but also completely true that Puncher left some ginormous skates to fill in the office of the president. Luckily, I have an amazing set of board members and the best league possible to reach the goals and grow this league.
For now, we’ll enjoy staying in shape with open skates on Tuesday and Thursday nights and work in the background to gear up for a fabulous fifth season.
