SEPTEMBER 24: WHOLE ENCHILADA FIESTA
September 28, 2011 ·
Shiny garments, alien antennae and plenty of glitter helped thirteen Crossroads City Derby skaters adhere to the “Spaced Out at the Fiesta” theme as the rollergirls donned their skates and outdoor wheels and made their way along the 2-mile route of the 31st Annual Whole Enchilada Parade on September 24.

Puncher Villa, The Venomous DiMilo, Erika S. Trauma, Nikki Six-Shooter, Hearno Evil, Muñeca Mala, Hippie ChEck, Apache Starr, Rx Bex, Rise ‘N Shiner, General Grant Slam, Fearless Foxy Fighter and Barbie Bombshell handed out candy to spectators along the parade route. Gonads O’Brien drove the candy-filled CCD truck during the parade. All three home teams, including the Reguladies, the Rink Rash Revolutionaries and the Spitfire Sallies, as well as the travel team, the Sucias, were represented in the parade.

This is the second year CCD has participated in The Whole Enchilada Fiesta Parade. Following the parade CCD hosted a dunking booth, where Fiesta attendees had the opportunity to dunk a rollergirl. See pics!

SEPTEMBER 22: CCD HOSTS “GIRLS’ MOVIE NIGHT”

The ladies of Crossroads City Derby put away their skates, protective gear and duct tape, dusted off their nicest get-up, took a long-awaited break on a cushiony movie-theatre seat and enjoyed a night out with friends and family to celebrate “Girls’ Movie Night” on September 22, 2011. CCD joined with regional movie theatre leader, Allen Theatres to treat attendees to the Sara Jessica Parker film “I Don’t Know How She Does It.” Before the movie, representatives from local spas and salons lined the Cineport 10 lobby to share information on available services and Guzman Sport Karate and Kickboxing provided demonstrations. Several attendees won highly sought after door prizes. Special events committee members Hearno Evil and Choni Chaser coordinated the fundraising event. CCD President, Reguladies Captain and Sucia extraordinaire Puncher Villa was the top movie ticket seller. Tickets were $10 and partial proceeds went to Crossroads City Derby. Unwilling to end the night with great company too early, attendees made their way across the parking lot to De La Vega’s Pecan Grill and Brewery for drink specials following the movie.

SEPTEMBER 18: CORALINE’S MEMORIAL

I’ve been with CCD scene June 2010 as an NSO and a skater. I joined the league for a chance to meet a group of women who could take a beating and give a beating back all in love. I had found out I was pregnant, and not wanting to disappoint my teammates, I told each one individually and the ladies ran with it – loving my belly and ready for their “Regubaby.”

We all knew it was a girl and as the months and weeks ticked by our “Regubaby” Coraline was diagnosed with Hydrops Fetalis. The ladies of CCD cheered our baby girl on, supported her with love and that’s an amazing feeling. Though our “Regubaby” Coraline lost her fight to Hydrops Fetalis, the ladies still cheered her on as we released Coraline’s balloons. These ladies are also welcoming me to get back on skates. How could you not feel so much love, inspiration, gratitude to the ladies that have strapped on skates and given love to create the family of Crossroads City Derby?! Thank you CCD.

SARD CHARMED FORCES VS. CCD SUCIAS

Needless to say it was an emotional weekend for all of America. The morning of the bout, we were checking out our Facebook profile and saw something I’m sure no one would believe so we took a picture of it.

Notice the number of “likes”? Trust me, this wasn’t planned. We could only assume that we were where we were meant to be.

I don’t mean to wax philosophical about Sunday but this happening on such a significant day meant a lot to us. It also made us want to skate harder and faster knowing that we were doing it in memory of those who were affected by the horrible event that occurred ten years ago.

As always, it was a great experience. Thank you SARD for hosting us, we had a great time enjoying your beautiful city. See ya again soon!

Final Score: SARD Charmed Forces 111, CCD Sucias 159
